Summer Intensive Portfolio Preparation 3-Day Sessions

Summer is the best time to work on creating portfolio work. Time and effort put in during the summer will help you refine your skills, learn new techniques, create portfolio quality work, and most importantly reduce stress when you're going crazy studying for SAT's, writing college essays, and keeping up with your academic classes. Working in an art studio with other dedicated students and teachers will help you focus and provide inspiration - these classes will help you get the work done.

Our classes are small - ideally 6 students per session - so everyone has plenty of space to work and gets lots of individual attention. Each session focuses on a specific skill and/or topic. These sessions are ideal for high school students interested in starting, adding to, or completing their portfoilos.

Our students have been accepted, and awarded significant scholarship money, at excellent schools including: Ringling College of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, Maryland Institute College of Art, Hartford Art School, and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Our sessions work with your schedule - we purposely choose the 1-5 pm time frame so everyone has a chance to sleep in and in addition your evenings are free. Take advantage of these perfect afternoon hours to invest in your future.

In addition to these 3 sessions high school students are also welcome to join the Adult Watercolor and/or Oil Painting Classes. These painting classes provide dedicated time to work with a specific medium and another opportunity to create portfolio work.

This summer we are offering 3 Summer Instensive Portfolio Prepartion Classes:

Date
June 29, 30,
July 1st

OBSERVTIONAL DRAWING

Observational drawing is drawing from life - from real objects. Observational drawings are requirements for every college portfolio. Often students think they're boring or unnecessary - not true! The key is setting up an still life that is both intersting and challenging. At the end of this workshop you'll have a charcoal drawing for your portfolio that you'll be proud of.

July 13,14,15

Please Note:
This session
meets from
1:30-5:30 pm

FIGURE AND FABRIC IN CHARCOAL

It's often difficult for high school students to work on figure drawing. Lack of a live model and not enough time to work on the drawing make it hard to complete. Colleges want to see figure drawing - it's such a valuble, necessary skill.

In this workshop we'll be drawing the clothed human figure from a live model.  This workshop is a long–pose, and will retain the same pose all 4 days. The first day will focus on the gesture, movement, proportion and anatomy of the figure. The second day will be spent learning on how to create dynamic, realistic drapery and clothing. The pose and model will be new so everyone is welcome - there is always more to learn.

July 27,28,29

PORTRAITS

Portraits are another requirement for college portfolios. We wil be drawing from life, and exploring the how color represents light through dry pastel. Learn proper pastel technique while addressing anatomical structure, portrait color mixing, and facial likeness.
