CT Art School's 2017 Summer Program

Our sessions are broken down into three age categories: 6-10, 8-12 (younger) and 11-15 (older). If you have a child slightly younger or older and you think they would love these sessions please email us to discuss. Our days are fast paced and we do art the whole time - it's the perfect summer adventure for art loving kids!

All younger sessions will include drawing, painting, and 3D crafts related to the theme. We pride ourselves on developing cool projects (you won't be gluing fun foam door signs here). Projects could include: papier mache, Sculpey clay, Shrinky Dinks, printmaking, mosacis, jewelry, and more. We're testing projects now getting everything ready for summer.

Older sessions are designed primarily for middle school students. The projects and drawings are age appropriate, challenging, and fun.

Register Online - Our entire summer program is listed on our calendar: The calendar updates in real time so you will have immediate confirmation once you register. We’ll also be designing and creating ourselves as super heroes and turning these drawings into trading cards. Start planning now - what’s your super power? Do you wear a cape? We’ll also make a clay Tsum Tsum and a special tray with some of our drawings to display your favorite treasures. We’ll also create Pony Wings for sneakers and our very own My Little Pony headbands with ears and a beautiful mane.

Sunset Celebration takes place at Mallory Square in Key West, Florida every evening. It’s a multicultural experience featuring artists, street performers, food and a chance to honor the day. We’ll paint beautiful sunsets and palm trees. We’ll look at beautiful lighthouses, Ernest Hemingway’s home with his 6 toed cats, Key West chickens, conch shells, and key limes for inspiration. We’ll also create some incredible crafts inspired by treasures of the sea. Summer at the beach wouldn’t be complete without ice cream and we're going to be making (and eating) our own.

Monday - Thursday, July 10-13, 2017
Afternoon: 1:30 - 5:00 pm - Please bring a nut free snack and drink
This session meets in The Studio - 1726 Ellington Road, South Windsor

Clay and Canvas is the best of both worlds! We'll paint a canvas board with acrylic paint to create a background and paint some of the objects in the painting. Then we’ll use Sculpey clay to make 3D relief clay characters. Overnight we'll bake the clay and then it can be glued onto the canvas. Scrapbooking papers, fabric, and gems can be added for some extra pizzazz. This is a really fun combination of painting and clay and the results are amazing.

Oil Painting

Learning to paint with oils is so much fun and not as difficult as you may think. This is an introductory class where you'll learn how to work with oils, mix colors and create a painting. We'll be working on a small canvas (or more if time allows) starting with a simple underpainting. Then we'll add layers of oils and learn various brush techniques. We use low odor, water soluable oil paints - non-toxic, easy clean up with soap and water. Adults are welcome to join this class as well.
