Homeschool (1.5 hours) 6-10 year olds
The homeschool class meets from 1:30-3:00 pm Tuesdays. Tuition for Tuesday homeschool classes is discounted.(homeschool discounts only apply to homeschool classes) Click here for more information Homeschoolers are also welcome to join any after school or evening class. In addition sibling discounts still apply.


Storytime Art (1.5 hours) The First Tuesday of every month - October through May

Special 1.5 hour sessions where young artists will listen to a story and complete a drawing based on the book. We’ll experiment with a variety of drawing and painting materials. Our emphasis will be on having fun while exposing these young artists to colors, shapes, and letter recognition.

Cost per session: $18, Limit 8 per session
Time: Tuesdays - first Tuesday of the month - 9:30 -11:00 am

2008/2009 dates
Join us for as many sessions as you like:
October 7th, November 4th, December 2nd, Jan 6th, Feb 2nd, Mar 2nd, Apr 6th, and May 5th

Children must be potty trained
No additional registration fee for these classes.


Students may participate in any class that’s appropriate for their interest and skill. Age is not a prerequisite for any class, but a starting point.

B
eginning Artists:
(1.0 hour.) 4.5 - 6 year olds
Get ready to be amazed at what these young artists can do. Teachers will use guided lessons based on subject matter that appeals to this age group. Every project will present a new set of fun challenges. Aside from the excitement of being able to draw what they are seeing Beginning Artists gain the added benefit of increasing their fine motor coordination, problem solving skills, and concentration all while having a great time. All of these skills will be an asset in the classroom (or homeschool) setting.


Please note that not all 4.5 year olds are ready for these classes. If you’re not sure about your child please ask and we’ll arrange a free try-out class. Class size limited to 8 so everyone gets lots of attention.

Beginning Artist's will be able to:
- Recognize and identify: line, shape, and color (elements of art)
- Understand, interpret, and create guided drawings
- Distinguish vertical and horizontal compositions
- Use materials appropriately

Level 1: Basic Drawing (1.0 hour) 5 - 7 year olds
Projects in this class are designed to guide students in developing their drawing skills while encouraging self-expression and individual creativity. Most of the lessons are guided, with the teacher showing how to break the subject matter down into basic art elements. Students will have their own vision and build on the instructions to create their own finished piece. The non-competitive, friendly atmosphere allows students to take risks and try new things. Subject matter includes: animals, sea life, still life, art history, the human form, buildings, vehicles, and different cultures.

Level 1 students will be able to:
- Recognize and identify: line, shape, color, texture, value, space (art elements)
- Identify and name primary and secondary colors, warm and cool colors
- Develop a vocabulary of art terminology
- Understand, interpret, and create guided drawings.
- Begin to make personal creative choices
- Distinguish vertical and horizontal compositions
- Identify foreground, middle ground, and background placement
- Use materials appropriately

Level 2: Basic Drawing (1.5 hours)
Younger 7 - 8 years, Older 8 - 10 years, please email or call if you have questions/concerns - ages are a starting point and can be flexible.
This class is similar to Level 1: Basic Drawing but is designed for children with longer attention spans who are ready for more challenges. The additional time allows students to develop and complete their projects. We offer both a Younger and Older Level 2 class - the older class will work on projects that include more detail and begin to add basic shading.

Level 2 students will be able to:
- Identify and use: line, shape, color, texture, value, space (art elements)
- Recognize and identify: balance, symmetry, center of interest (principals of art)
- Identify and name primary, secondary and tertiary colors, complimentary and analogous colors
- Develop a vocabulary of art terminology
- Understand, interpret, and create guided drawings. · Continue making personal creative choices
- Preplan drawings thinking about composition, center of interest, foreground, middle ground, background, and vertical and horizontal orientation of page
- Begin to understand the concept of shading to create volume and three dimensionality
- Gain exposure to observational drawing (drawing from actual objects)
- Use materials appropriately

Level 3: Drawing/Mixed Media (1.5 hours) 9 –12 year olds
This class is for students who are ready to take their art skills to the next level. Students will begin drawing more independently. Guidance is provided on an “as needed” basis leading students through the decision making process involved in creating art. Some lessons will be guided; others will be based on drawing from imagination as well as 3-D objects. Shading, creating volume, beginning perspective, and composition will all be introduced. We will work towards developing finished pieces.

Level 3 students will be able to:
- Identify and use: line, shape, color, texture, value, space (art elements)
- Identify and use all of the principals of art in the Artist’s Toolbox: balance, symmetry, center of interest, movement, repetition, and harmony
- Identify and name primary, secondary and tertiary colors, complimentary and analogous colors – color mixing, color theory
- Develop a vocabulary of art terminology
- Consistently preplan and create preliminary drawings
- Learn to critically evaluate artwork
- Use shading/modeling to create volume and three dimensionality
- Gain continued exposure to observational drawing (drawing from actual objects)
Gain exposure to one and two point perspective
Use materials appropriately

Level 3/4: Drawing/Mixed Media (1.5 hours) 11 –14 year olds
Level 3/4 is designed for students who have been in Level 3 class for at least a year, more likely 2+ years. Students in this class will be challenged to work at an increasingly higher level, Independent drawing skills and a willing attitude are necessary.

Level 4/5: Drawing/Mixed Media
(1.5 hours) 13-16+ year olds - Basic drawing skills are necessary.
Find your creative expression while exploring drawing and painting techniques. This is an intermediate level fine arts drawing and painting class. Projects will be based on studies of 3-D objects, photographs, the human form, art history and more. Emphasis will be on independent projects, creating complete compositions starting with thumbnail sketches, shading, color theory, and perspective. We’ll explore a variety of different techniques and media. Students will work on independent projects.

*Depending on the media and projects students choose there may be an additional fee for supplies or a supply list will be given.

Level 4/5 students will be able to:
- Show mastery of the art elements
- Show mastery of the principals of art
- Identify and name primary, secondary and tertiary colors, complimentary and analogous colors – color mixing, color theory
- Develop a vocabulary of art terminology
- Consistently preplan and create preliminary drawings
- Discuss and critique artwork
- Accuratly use of shading/modeling to create volume and three dimensionality
- Concentrate on observational drawing (drawing from actual objects)
Create one and two point perspective drawings
- Plan and creates independent works of art
- Begin portfolio preparation
- Use materials appropriately
